Hi All,
I just installed winXp on a freh deive.
Everything was going OK, I installed all the required apps.... Anti Spywares, antivirus, firewall etc....
Now suddenly the double click does not work on the desktop icons.....
If I right click and click Open, then everything is fine but the double click does not work.....

Any one with the trick for making this work... please help...

Hello,

I have a similar problem, but the above fix didn't help. I re-installed XP, but double clicking hard disk icons and their shortcuts does not work anymore. (All other items that should work by double clicking are okay.)

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

HALO2914: An hourglass appears, but the disk contents does not show. Right clicking still works, showing all the open, explore, etc. options

bicycle bill: There is only a fix for folders. In 'File Types' a hard-disk icon is shown, but there is no intelligble way of changing the clicking action.

Thank you for your replies.

I noticed the same problem after I upgraded to XP and was directed to check my mouse settings (in the Control Panel) and to lower the double-click speed. It was said that the speed was set too fast for me to be able to click fast enough.

When I went into the mouse properties I did find that my double-click speed was set to the fastest setting. As soon as I lessened it (btw, the default setting is in the middle) I was able to double-click everything just fine.

Augie65: First, my apologies for the late reply. I've tried your suggestion, and the dll was successfully installed. However, it didn't solve the problem.

Lisakmusco: I've tried reducing the double click speed in Settings, but to no avail.

Thank you both for your input; I guess I'll just learn to live with right clicking.

Take care,

Anthony

Run Regedit, find HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Mouse.
Delete the value data in DoubleClickHeight, DoubleClickWidth and DoubleClickSensitivity.

Control Panel, Mouse, Doubleclick speed, move the pointer to a mid position.

Worked for me.
